Chasing adventure has been a lifelong passion of mine. Born in me was an innate desire to push limits. When I was a youngster, I would ride my bike out of the neighborhood into areas that I had not been before just to see what was out there beyond what I knew. That feeling of leaving the comfort zone, though at times a stretch, is something I have never outgrown.
When I find a friend to explore and adventure with, it is just about the most fun in the world to me! Trying something new leads to knowledge and experiences that build confidence and simply make the most of living!
One of the most recent experiences was a hike up a mountain in New Jersey in an exquisitely beautiful area called the Delaware Water Gap. Mount Tammany is described in almost any hiking guide as very steep so my friend and I had some trepidation beforehand, hoping at our middle ages we could make it! Neither one of us is one to quit or bail so upon setting out on the Red Dot trail we knew we were going for it and hoped we would make it to the top!
The guides were not joking as every bit of the trail up was lined with rocks and boulders that seemed never-ending as we ascended the verticalness. We could hardly believe the terrain and it was quite a physical workout. Views along the way astounded and energized us though, and as our heart rates rose uncharacteristically higher so did our determination. Reaching the summit of Mount Tammany was a feat will long recall and enjoy! An absolute notch on the belt as they say! It was a spectacular feeling and proved to us both that our love of adventure is something we will work to keep alive as long as we live!
The great thing in all this is that these adventures can be of any size and they exist right where we live. All of us can decide to go exploring by looking deeper at the environments within and hour or so from our homes. There is so much out there to see, do learn about and experience. All it takes are a few google searches to stumble on things you did not even know existed and then plan to go and do!
It is the season; summer is here and this year more than ever it seems most of us will be sticking closer to home than jumping on planes to faraway lands. The local landscapes await and the treasures you will find are of the greatest value as you grow your life experiences you also grow your mind and spirit! Adventure On Friends!
